![]() ![]() Later, Stratemeyer’s daughter, Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, became the main writer under the name Carolyn Keene, in addition to have all of the earlier books revised and running the Syndicate. ![]() The first ghostwriter for the series was Mildred Benson (then known as Mildred Augustine and later Mildred Wirt). There have been many ghostwriters to work under the name of Carolyn Keene, both during the time of the Stratemeyer Syndicate and even today under Simon & Schuster, who currently publish the new books and own the rights to Nancy Drew after they bought the Syndicate in 1985. The Stratemeyer Syndicate worked by having Edward Stratemeyer (or later, his daughters and their employees) write an outline and then hire a ghostwriter to write the story based on the outline under the pseudonym. ![]() After all, Carolyn Keene’s books have been highly influential to millions of children across the world. Telling people that there is no Carolyn Keene can sometimes be akin to telling people there is no tooth fairy or questioning the existence of Santa Claus. ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't think though that some of the younger people quite convinced as much, and there were some scenes that felt rushed. Although I haven't read the book, I found the final solution very clever, assuming it was faithful, and I have vague memories of the Joan Hickson ending similarly. Others like Robert Powell and Jane Asher do well too, while Janet McTeer is superb as Anne and Gerealdine McEwan gave a certain sadness to her role, that I really appreciated, as after her outing in Body in the Library, I did want a more subdued Miss Marple. His performance is that good, it is very easy to hate him. The acting is fairly good, especially Derek Jacobi as Colonel Protheroe. ![]() And let me say that I found some of it quite sad, with Miss Marple's flashbacks, and the really sad music. It is beautifully filmed, with lovely costumes. ![]() ![]() ![]() This transforms into the brass fanfare of the Introduction and introduces the "dawn" motif (from "Zarathustra's Prologue", the text of which is included in the printed score) that is common throughout the work the motif includes three notes, in intervals of a fifth and octave, as C–G–C (known also as the Nature-motif). The piece starts with a sustained double low C on the double basses, contrabassoon and church organ. The work is orchestrated for piccolo, 3 flutes (3rd doubling piccolo), 3 oboes, English horn, clarinet in E-flat, 2 clarinets in B-flat, bass clarinet in B-flat, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 6 horns in F and E, 4 trumpets in C and E, 3 trombones, 2 tubas, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, glockenspiel, bell on low E, organ, and strings: 2 harps, violins I, II (16 each), violas (12), cellos (12), and double basses (8) (with low B string). The initial fanfare – titled "Sunrise" in the composer's programme notes – became well known after its use in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey. A typical performance lasts half an hour. ![]() ![]() The composer conducted its first performance on 27 November 1896 in Frankfurt. 30 ( German: ( listen), Thus Spoke Zarathustra or Thus Spake Zarathustra) is a tone poem by Richard Strauss, composed in 1896 and inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical 1883–1885 novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra. ![]() ![]() ![]() For too much, and we become something else entirely. ![]() ![]() What Causes Surfactant Leaching-and How to Prevent it ![]() It is important to note that the discoloration from surfactant leaching is not the same as water stains or spots and should not be treated as such. When newly applied exterior latex paint is exposed to high moisture or humidity while drying, the rising surfactants can produce stains, also known as weeping, appearing as an oily or sticky, sap-like substance. While unattractive, surfactant leaching does not harm the coating. Surfactant leaching frequently shows up in bathrooms and other humid environments on ceilings or walls. This residue can be sticky, discolored, glossy or soapy in appearance. When newly applied latex paint is exposed to high moisture or humidity while it’s drying and/or curing, the surfactants can rise prematurely to the film’s surface, producing a residue or splotches. These water-soluble components migrate over time to the surface of the paint. ![]() Surfactants are necessary ingredients of latex paint. How to Identify, Prevent and Fix Surfactant Leachingĭespite its name and appearance, surfactant leaching is an aesthetic concern, and not harmful to the paint nor the surface it covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() Director Tom Tykwer and producer Bernd Eichinger convinced Süskind to give them the movie rights Image: Deutsche Kinemathek - Sammlung Bernd Eichinger His first victim is a red-haired "mirabelle" girl. In all countries today, state capitalist enterprises coexist and transact in markets with private capitalist enterprises. The Difference Between State Capitalism and Socialism State officials occupy the key directorial positions within such state capitalist enterprises. Thus, under state capitalism it is state officials placed in charge of enterprises who hire employees, organize and supervise their activities within enterprises, sell the resulting outputs (goods or services), receive the sales revenues and thus realize any profits. State capitalism exists when the state apparatus – rather than a group of private citizens – positions state officials to function as capitalist employers. With confidence waning in whether modern private capitalism can truly be fixed, the debate shifts to a choice between two systemic alternatives that we must learn to keep straight: state capitalism and socialism. ![]() ![]() We need to understand the differences between them to move beyond today’s dysfunctional economies. These three systems are entirely different from each other. Can you sustain our work with a tax-deductible donation today?
